P7M ALOKASYON SA ‘KONSYERTO’ NG PCO SINILIP NG SENADOR

HINDI bahagi ng mandato ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) ang magdaos ng “Konsyerto sa Palasyo” .

Ito ang pagkuwestiyun ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III hinggil sa alokasyon na P7 milyon para sa PCO.

“In the increase that our committee granted, we appropriated P7m million for a concert. Tama po ba ‘yung narinig namin? And then the budget is given to PCO? Is that connected with your mandate?”, tanong ni Pimentel sa Senate plenary deliberations ng P2.47 bilyon na panukalang badyet ng ahensya para sa 2024.

Bagama’t hindi tutol si Pimentel sa “Konsyerto sa Palasyo” ng administrasyon, ngunit wala aniya siyang nakikitang katwiran sa plano para mag-organisa ng nasabing event ang ahensya.

“While he doesn’t object to the administration’s “Konsyerto sa Palasyo,” ani Pimentel. “The PCO proper is the primary arm of the government for mass media or public disclosure of government pronouncements. Ako, parang ‘di ko ma-justify na kayo ang mag-o-organize ng konsyerto. Okay lang sakin, pero give it to the proper government agency sana.”

Ipinaliwanag naman ni Sen. JV Ejercito, na dumepensa sa badyet ng PCO, na ang pag-organisa sa live productions para sa broadcast ay bahagi ng mandato ng ahensya sa ilalim ng Seksyon 6 ng Executive Order (EO) No. 16.

Matatandaan noong Pebrero 2023, nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ang EO No. 16 na nag-uutos sa reorganization ng PCO.

“The new mandate of PCO includes live productions for broadcast. It’s something new…Section 6 of EO 16 [states] that one of the mandates of the PCO is to manage and organize live production for broadcast,” paliwanag ni Ejercito.

“He also explained that the concert that will be held in Malacañang Palace aims “to show the administration’s support not only for culture and arts, [but] also to serve as a way to subtly convey the message of different issues and accomplishments of the administration.”

“I think, that is one of the tasks of the PCO, is really to amplify and inform everyone of the accomplishments of the administration,” giit ni Ejercito.
