BARANGAY Ginebra point guard LA Tenorio, ang tinaguriang PBA’s “Iron Man,” ay nasuri na may Stage 3 colon cancer.
Ibinunyag ng 38-year-old guard ang diagnosis sa kanyang pahayag sa PBA’s official website, Martes.
“I was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. The initial testing three weeks ago led me to instantly miss practices and games. I have completed my surgery last week and will soon undergo treatment for the next few months,” Wika ni Tenorio.
Si Tenorio ay naglaro 744 consecutive games — pinakamahabang streak sa kasaysayan ng PBA— bago hindi nagpakita kontra Meralco Bolts nakaraang Marso 1.Sinabi ng team na si Tenorio ay may dinaramdam na abdominal injury na kanyang natamo sa finals ng 2023 PBA Commissioners Cup ngayon taon.
Sinabi ni Tenorio na nais niyang makabalik para sa “Iron Man 2”.
“I would like to issue a statement about my health status by firstly apologizing to my teammates, some coaches, the PBA, the fans, the media and even some friends. As most of you are aware I have been nursing a minor injury since the finals last January. I used that as the reason for my sudden absence. “With my profession in sports tied to health and entertainment, it will be very difficult to keep the real reason a secret any longer and will only lead to unnecessary gossip, fake news and misinterpretations,” Dagdag pa nya.
Sa kabila ng cancer diagnosis, binigyan diin ni Tenorio na hindi pa siya magretiro sa laro na kanyang pinakamamahal.
“With the help of the best doctors in the Philippines and Singapore, I believe I can touch a basketball once more and return stronger,” anya.
Si Tenorio ay fourth overall pick sa 2006 PBA Draft ng San Miguel Beer pagkatapos ng mabungang collegiate career sa Ateneo de Manila University. Nagwagi siya ng 8 PBA championship at four-time Finals MVP, tinanghal na Best player of the Conference honors sa 2013 Commissioners Cup.
