Commitment ng Maynila na seryosohin ang solid waste management, nakakuha ng tulong sa UNDP

NAKAKUHA ng suporta mula sa United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), isang Mobile Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) na layunin na ibilang ang mga barangays bilang parte ng solusyon na maturan ang mga residentes sa tamang pagtatapon ng basura.
Personal na tinanggap nina Mayor Honey Lacuna at Department of Public Services chief Kayle Nicole Amurao ang donasyon ni UNDP Deputy Resident Representative na si Edwin Carrie sa isang simpleng handover ceremony para sa Accelerating Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) sa pamamagitan ng Circular Economy in Cities (ACE) Project na ginawa sa Manila Zoo.
Naroon din upang sumaksi sa handover sina Public Recreations Bureau chief Roland Marino at Barangay 720 Enriqueta O. Platon.?
“Our city government is continuously trying to respond to the problem of waste and its impact on the environment. One of our concrete actions is the establishment of this Materials Recovery Facility that we have right here inside the Manila Zoo. This is where we found a space appropriate to such facility and of course, this is a place where waste materials are accumulated everyday,” pahayag ni Lacuna sa kanyang talumpati.
“We are grateful to UNDP through the ACE project for the donation of this Mobile Materials Recovery Facility equipped with plastic melter machine, multipurpose shredder, glass pulverizer and other tools which are essential in our waste management activities in the city… once again, thank you UNDP for this and we hope that you will always consider Manila as your partner and co-implementer your development initiatives and activities,” dagdag pa ng alkalde.
Ayon kay Lacuna, ang mobile MRF ay dadalhin sa iba’t-ibang pamayanan at gagawin ang kanilang papel sa promotion ng circular economy solutions na kinabibilangan ng sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing at recycling.
Idinagdag pa nito na ang equipment ay gagamitin para mapataas pa ang social awareness at hikayatin pa ang mas marami kung hindi man lahat ng Manilenos, na seryosohin ang solid waste management seriously at ibigay ang sarili nilang commitment na maging involved at maging bahagi ng solusyon.
Ipinaliwanag ni Amurao na ang nasabing proyekto ay pinopondohan ng Government of Japan at may initial term na walong buwan simula nang mag-umpisa ito noong August 1, 2022 at matapos sa March 31, 2024.
Sinabi nito na ang ACE project ay layuning suportahan ang Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatupad at pagpalakas ng nations conversion to a circular economy. Sa pamamagitan nito ay matutulunngan ang bansa sa matamo ang economic, social, and environmental objectives habang nireresolba ang posibilidad ng mahalagang pagtaas sa pagbaba ng emissions ng greenhouse gases (GHG) sa mga mahahalagang industriya.
Ilan sa mga mahahalagang bahagi project ay ang donation ng Mobile Materials Recovery Facility with Trailer and Solid Waste Management (SWM) equipment tulad ng Plastic Melter Machine, Multipurpose Shredder, Glass Pulverizer, at SWM Tools na inaasahang makaka- contribute sa pagpapahaba ng life cycle ng produkto habang binabawasan nito ang basura sa pamamagitan ng waste combination of improving the current waste management system and supporting and scaling circular economy solutions.
“These solutions involve sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products, use of sustainable materials, and raising awareness and changing behaviors towards sustainable production and consumption, while creating new business opportunities and green jobs, ” dagdag pa ni Amurao.
