The Philippines rejects China’s assertion that joint patrols with US forces in the West Philippine Sea constitute stirring up trouble. Our engagements with the United States are well within our rights as a sovereign and independent nation, aimed at promoting maritime security and upholding international law. We reject any assertion from other countries that seeks to undermine our legal and legitimate activities.
The joint air patrol or exercise conducted by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the United States Pacific Air Force (PACAF) is a lawful and routine exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability between allied forces and promoting regional peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The joint patrols conducted inside Philippine territory serve the purpose of enhancing maritime security, promoting regional stability, and upholding international law.
These patrols help deter illegal activities, ensure freedom of navigation, and contribute to the protection of shared interests in the region.
International law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), recognizes the sovereign rights of coastal states. We urge China to respect the sovereign rights of the Philippines conducted within its territory consistent with its national interests and international law.
Adhering to established legal framework is crucial for fostering peaceful relations, stability, and cooperation between the Philippines and China. Adherence to international norms are essential to the peaceful coexistence of neighboring states. Respecting and following international law is essential for maintaining peace, resolving disputes, and advancing our shared interests in the region.
The joint air patrol with the US is part of our longstanding defense cooperation. We will continue to work closely with our friends, allies, and partners to ensure a secure and prosperous future for all nations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Pakibasa:
We have to distinguish a revolution from a revolt. They are two different things. A revolt is an intense expression of dissent or disagreement on a CERTAIN government or policy. When a revolt becomes successful leading to massive changes, it is called a revolution. In brief, they are related concepts.
When I covered Cory Aquino and Doy Laurel’s oath-taking at Club Filipino in the morning of Feb. 25. 1986, I asked Emmanuel Pelaez, a former vice president, why the uprising at EDSA would have to be called EDSA Revolution. “Because it is successful,” he argued. “A revolt could either fail or succeed, but when it succeeds, it is aptly called a revolution,” he told me in all candor.
At that time, nobody was so sure where the mass action at EDSA would lead, but the camp of Cory Aquino was sure that the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos would fall. They did not see any indication that Marcos would recover as 90 % of the Armed Forces defected to the rebel side led by JPE and FVR. Moreover, the Filipino people kept on coming at EDSA in a massive demonstration of protest against Marcos and support of the rebel camp.
Pelaez succeeded to convince the Supreme to Court to allow the holding of the Feb. 7, 1986 “snap” presidential elections, as he raised the political question doctrine, adding that it was the Filipino people, who wished to hold to hold. Some souls questioned the snap presidential elections and the High Court had to hold oral arguments, where proponents of either side argued before the magistrates as if they were doing some oral examinations in a law school. That was sometime in December, 1985.
EDSA 1, which toppled the Marcos dictatorship in 1986, and EDSA 2, which kicked out Erap Estrada in 2001, were excellent examples of revolutions. The May 1, 2001 uprising of Marcos and Erap loyalists in front of Malacanang was wrongly labelled EDSA 3. Some said it was a revolt of the addicts.

MGA SALITA NA DAPAT TANDAAN: “On the plains of hesitation lie the blackened bones of countless millions who at the dawn of victory lay down to rest, and in resting died.” – Adlai Stevenson, American politician
“Welcoming ICC’s investigation will do us more good than harm. It’s an opportunity for government to prove to the world and our doubting citizenry that there were no EJKs but legitimate and warranted operations which had collateral damages. Rejecting the ICC is admission of guilt?” – Fr. Nongnong, netizen, pari, kritiko
– PL, netizen, kritiko
“The problem with the world nowadays is that the intelligent people are full of doubt, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.” – Leisbeth Recto, netizen, kritko
