Palawan host ng Dragon Boat World Championships

MAHIGIT 1,500 paddlers mula sa 26 na bansa ang sasabak sa 2024 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championship sa siyudad ng Puerto Princesa, Palawan sa Oktubre 28 hanggang Nobyembre 4.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon na ang Southeast Asian Country ay mag host ng world event na magsilbe ring qualifying sa World Games na gaganapin sa Chengdu, China sa susunod na taon,Wika ni Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) president Len Escollante.

Powerhouse countries mula sa Europe,gaya ng Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine at Russia ay kasapi.

Sa Asia, lalahok rin ang China, kasama ang India,na mayroong 150 athletes, Thailand at Iran, ay magpapadala ng tig-80 atleta.

Ang Pilipinas ay kakatawanin ng 200 athletes na nasa Puerto Princesa na simula noong Setyembre 26 kasunod ang Juniors’ training sa Davao at ang seniors sa Tanay,Rizal.

“The paddlers alone, we expect over 1,500. Then we have other delegates. They are all excited to come here because they know that aside from the competition, there will be other things to do in Puerto Princesa and Palawan,” Sambit ni Escollante sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex sa Manila Martes.

“This will also be good for our tourism.”

Kabuuang 54 gold medals ang nakataya sa 200m, 500m and 2,000m races.

Ang Open national team division ay may alok na 18 gold medals, gaya ng Master 40-plus.

Nine golds bawat isa ang ipagkaloob sa 50-plus at juniors para sa boys and girls.

Pinasalamatan ni Escolante si Puerto Princesa Mayor Lucilo Bayron at ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa kanilang all-out support.

Sa 2018 edition, ang Pilipinas ay humakot ng five golds,two silvers at one bronze sa Atlanta, Georgia.

Ang 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championship ang maging pinakamalaki pagdating sa participating countries.

Sa 2018, mayroong 18 habang ang 2022 edition hosted ng Czech Republic may 16.
