TUNAWIN ANG SENADO

ISA-ISA naglalabasan ang mga senador sa mga lungga. Iisa ang ngawa: Hindi panahon upang dinggin ang impeachment complaint laban kay Sara. Hahatiin ng anumang paglilitis ang bansa laban sa kanya. Maraming ginagawa ang Senado at hindi ito malinaw kung bakit.

Diyan kami hindi kumporme, sa totoo lang. Maraming ginagawa ang Senado, sa alin? Hello? Batugan ang Senado at labis-labis na batugan. Kung maari lang, tunawin na lang ang Senado at hayaan bumalik sa anyong unicameral ang Kongreso. Isang kapulungan na lang ang bubuo sa Kongreso – ang Camara de Representante.

Hindi namin babanggitin kung sino ang mga senador na hinatulan ang reklamong impeachment laban sa diyosa mula Davao City. Hindi namin hayaan sumikat ang mga iyan sa kolum ko.

Dalawang impeachment complaint ang inihain ng dalawang grupo sa Camara de Representante. Nauna noong Lunes ang mga demokratikong oposisyon sa panguna ng Akbayan, Magdalo, at Mamamayan Para sa Liberal. Noong Miyerkuloes, sumunod ang mga maka-kaliwang grupo sa pangunguna ng Makabayan Bloc.

Kinagabihan ng Miyerkules, lumabas sa programang “Facts First” ni Christian Esguerra upang ipaliwanag ang kanilang impeachment complaint. Ipinaliwanag niya na malaki ang pag-asa na sumulong ang dalawang impeachment complaint sa Camara.

Kung sakaling sumulong sa Camara at dinala ang impeachment complaint sa Senado, dadaanan ito sa masusing proseso kung bubusisiin nila ang mga reklamo. Ipinahiwatig ni Casino na maaaring magbago ang naunang pahayag ng mga senador na salat ang ga kaaalaman sa proseso ng impeachment.

Ayon kay Casino, alam ng mga mambabatas, lalo na ang mga kongresista, kahit sa unang tingin ang diskarte ni Sara sa confidential fund. Hindi sila saktong malinis, ani Casino, pero alam nila na ang confidential fund ay “gatasan ” Sa maikli, alam ng mga kongresista na nilustay ni Sara ang pera ng bayan, aniya.

Dating kongresista si Teddy kaya alam niya ang sinasabi niya sa isyu. Isa siya sa mga nagtrabaho pang naihain ang pangalawang impeachment complaint sa Camara.

MARAPAT konsultahin ng mga mambabatas ang apat na maimpluwensiyang sektor tungkol sa dalawang impeachment complaint laban kay Sara: Simbahan, komunidad ng mga Muslim, komunidad ng mga Lumad, at kahit ang Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas, o ang AFP. Kapag positibo, tuloy-tuloy lang.

Mahihnuka namin na payag ang Simbahan sa ituloy ang pagpapatalsik kay Sara. Hindi opisyal na makikialam ang AFP pero hindi tututol ang mga sundalo na litisin si Sara dahil batid nila na may kalokohan si Sara.

Kailangan maintindihan ang paninindigan ng mga Lumad dahil bahagi ng tribong Bagobo si Zuleika Lopez, chief of staff ni Sara. Hindi maintindihan ang mga Muslim dahil minsan inangkin ng MNLF ang pagbibigay proteksyon kay Sara noong may problema siya. Paano ang MILF na kausap ng administrasyon ni BBM sa isyung pangkapayapaan?

WHAT I’VE LEARNED FROM WINSTON CHURCHILL

EARLY this afternoon, I’ve started watching the series on the life of Winston Churchill, the wartime prime minister, who led Great Britain to defeat Nazi Germany. I’ve completed it at least two parts of the eight or ten part series, but I have started to understand what made Churchill so deserving of all accolodes given him.

Churchill became the prime minister after the policy of appeasement of his predecessor, Neville Chamberlain, failed dismally. Chamberlain’s policy failed to stop the outbreak of war in the Europe. The British Parliament did not have a choice but to dismiss him.

Lord Halifax, Chamberlan’s foreign minister, loomed to be his replacement, but the Parliament, opted instead to Churchill, who opposed Nazi Germany Adolf Hitler, whom he saw as a lunatic and personification of everything evil in man.

Although they differed immensely in their stand on Nazi Germany, Churchill kept Lord Halifax in his old post. They were both in the War Cabinet, which directed the British forces in Europe. When the German forces broke into the Ardeness to cut the combined British and French forces in Belgium to meet the German forces there, the Allied forces were certain to lose and the Nazi German forces were about to take France.

More than 400,000 men, of which 75% were British, while the rest were from its allies (France, Poland, and others) went to coastal town of Dunkirk for last holdout. The cowardly Lord Halifax asked Churchil to capitulate and negotiate with Hitler for a settlement. Churchill flatly rejected Lord Halifax’s suggestion saying that any negotiation with Hitler would only mean enslavement for the British people.

Churchill made the decision amid a difficult situation for the soldiers marooned at Dunkirk. In his own estimate, only 45,000 or 10% of the more than 400,000 soldiers would be saved. They launched in 1940 the Operation Dynamo, or the forced week-long military evacuation there that saved more than 350,000 of them. Lord Halifax was wrong.

Churchill was steadfast in his conviction that the British should not negotiate with Hitler because of the humiliating consequences.

I have brought this issue because of our own condition. I don’t see any reason why we should stop in the impeachment of Misfit sara. We should press for her dismissal from public office. We should press for her imprisonment from crimes she has committed against our people.

We should not negotiate and allow her to recover because it could be disastrous for your country. We should have a Duterte Free Philippines in 2025.
