Hiling na political asylum ni Cong. Teves binasura ng Timor-Leste government!

Labis na nagpasalamat si House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa gobyerno ng Timor-Leste sa pagtanggi nito sa kahilingan ni Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. na political asylum.

Dahil dito, nanawagan muli si Romualdez kay Teves na umuwi na lang sa Pilipinas, alisin ang suspensyon sa Kamara at harapin ang mga kaso kaugnay ng brutal na pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo noong Marso ngayong taon.

“Sana naman umuwi na si Cong. Arnie Teves para magiging moot na ‘yung suspension at gusto talaga nating bumalik siya at humarap talaga sa mga charges sa kanya,” ayon dito.

“Na-deny na ‘yung political asylum nya, dapat talaga bumalik at kung hindi, there may be another Ethics (Committee) recommendation for further sanctions against Cong. Teves,” ani Romualdez

Sinabi pa ng House Speaker na ang Timor-Leste ay nasa matibay na batayan sa desisyon nitong tanggihan ang kahilingan ni Cong. Teves na nagsasabing si Pangulong BBM Jr. ay maaaring magpahayag ng pasasalamat sa mga pinuno ng nabanggit na bansa.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he would just acknowledge and thank the Timor-Leste leader for the action taken by his government because that is the right course of action … President Marcos is one who is very, very respectful of protocol and processes, due process,” giit pa ng House Speaker.

“Obviously it has come to the knowledge of the government of Timor-Leste that there are indeed pending charges and more allegations…they are aware that when he (Teves) left the country that these weren’t apparent,” ayon pa rito.

Si Teves ay sinuspende ng Kamara ng 60 araw noong huling bahagi ng Marso dahil sa hindi pagbabalik sa bansa at humarap sa Ethics Committee sa kabila ng pag-expire ng kanyang awtoridad sa paglalakbay.

Sinabi ni Romualdez bilang isang suspendido na mambabatas, ang mga pribilehiyo at immunity ni Teves ay sinuspende rin at tiyak na hindi magagamit para umiwas sa hustisya.

“Right now ay suspendido siya ngayon, wala siyang rights or mga privileges sa Kongreso. The rights, privileges and immunities of a congressman are for the discharge of the legislative functions that he has, to make sure that he can perform as a legislator in the service of his constituents,” sabi ni Romualdez.

“Those rights, those privileges and those immunities are not meant for congressmen to use it to evade or to avoid justice,” dagdag pa nito. (Cesar Barquilla)
