Aira Villegas balik sa Thailand para mag-training

LUMIPAD nitong Martes sina Flyweight Aira Villegas at coach Reynaldo Galido papuntang Thailand para sumama sa national team training sa Muak Lek District of Saraburi province.

Villegas, na nagwagi ng silver medal sa prestihiyosong Thailand Open dalawang Linggo ang nakaraan, at Galido bumalik sa Manila April 10 para asikasuhin ang kanilang travel documents patungong Turkey.

Villegas, na bronze medalist sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games ay sasabak sa International Boxing Association Women’s Championship sa Mayo 6 to 21 sa Sinan Erdem Dome sa Istanbul.

“Aira is a good counter puncher. She has to improve on her defense and power because power is very important. It’s good if the judges will see the strong impact of her punch. Right now, that’s what we need to work on,” Galido, ay silver medalist sa 2005 Manila SEA Games, added.

Samantala, Mitchel Martinez ang naatasan na mangasiwa sa training ng limang Filipino women boxers na pupunta sa 2022 Vietnam SEA Games, sina 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petecio (lightweight), five-time SEA Games champion Josie Gabuco (pinweight), Irish Magno (flyweight), Riza Pasuit (featherweight) and Hergie Bacyadan (middleweight).

Pasuit at Bacyadan nagwagi ng gold medals sa Thailand Open.

Ang Filipino medalist sa men’s division ay sina flyweight Rogen Ladon (gold) at featherweight Ian Clark Bautista ( silver).

Sinabi ni ABAP secretary general Marcus Manalo na ang national boxers ay aalis mula Bangkok to Hanoi sa Mayo 13.

Ang SEA Games boxing competition ay gaganapin sa Bac Ninh Gymnasium mula Mayo 16 to 22.

Ang Pilipinas ay tinanghal na overall champion sa boxing sa 2019 SEA Games matapos humakot ng seven golds,three silvers, at two bronzes. Kasunod ang Thailand na may 5 golds, 3 silvers at 2 bronzes, pangatlo ang Vietnam na may 1 gold,5 silver at 2 bronzes at Indonesia (0-2-4).
