Sen. Recto sa gov’t: Magsampa ng diplomatic protest vs China ukol sa human waste sa WPS

UMAPELA si Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto sa pamahalaan na imbestigahan at magsampa ng diplomatic protest laban sa China kasunod ng napaulat na nagtatapon ng human waste ang mga barko ng Tsino sa West Philippine Sea.
“[The Department of Environment and Natural Resources] should investigate this, and if there is basis, file charges in court. Government cannot fine sidewalk litterers while turning a blind eye to this,” sabi ni Recto sa isang pahayag.
“[The Department of Foreign Affairs] should also study filing a diplomatic protest,” wika ni Recto.
Ayon sa senador, maituturing na pinapalitan na ang pangalan ng WPS na “Waste Philippine Sea” hinggil sa pagkilos ng mga Chinese ships.
“By turning reefs into toilets, two man-made things are now visible from space: the Great Wall of China on land, and the Great Wastes of China at sea,” diin pa ng senador.
Ipinunto pa ni Recto na batay sa domestic at international laws, pinagbabawalan ang mga barko na magtapon ng basura at gawin basurahan ang ating mga karagatan.
“Under Philippine laws, such are environmental crimes that carry a jail term and a hefty fine,” dagdag pa niya. (Mylene Alfonso)
