TAMBULIG, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR – Tambulig Mayor Charlotte Dumanjug-Panal, Zamboanga del Sur is accused of issuing multiple bouncing checks. Over PhP 4 million pesos was left unpaid throughout 24 checks issued by Panal from 2021 to 2022.

Three different complainants came forward to file a total of 24 violations of BP22, otherwise known as the Bouncing Check Law, after checks issued by Dumanjug from as early as May 2021 could not be drawn due to closed accounts or accounts with insufficient funds. The checks came from different issuing banks, namely China Bank, Philippine Business Bank, Philippine National Bank, and the United Coconut Planters Bank.

Panal is the daughter of the suspended mayoral couple Mayor Samson and and Vice Mayor Evelyn Dumanjug of Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental. Both are also embroiled in a contentious legal tussle of their own.

The elder Dumanjugs are implicated in overpriced, single-bidder, and substandard procurements of a brand new amphibious excavator and a garbage compactor truck, and was found liable to Abuse of Authority, Dishonesty, and Grave Misconduct, in violation of RA 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act), according to documents from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Occidental. They are currently serving a 60-day suspension order.
