Obispo sa lay leaders: Magbitiw kung kakandidato sa BSKE

NAGPAALALA ang isang Obispo sa mga opisyal at miyembro ng Catholic church organizations na kakandidato sa Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) sa Oktubre 30 na dapat maghain ang mga ito ng ‘leave of absence’.

Ito ang panawagan ni Malolos Bishop Dennis Villarojo, na naglabas ng isang circular noong Agosto 10 na bagama’t mariing hinihikayat ng simbahan ang partisipasyon ng lay leaders sa politika, batid din nito ang “potential confusion” sa pagsasagawa ng church at public office functions.

Sa circular na inilabas ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) nitong Sabado, Agosto 26, sinabi na:

“All incumbent officers and members of different church organizations who wish to be elected as public officials should file a leave of absence addressed to their respective parish priests. In failure to do so, they will be automatically resigned from their posts effective upon filing a certificate of candidacy,” ani Villarojo.

Sinabi niya na kung matalo man ang mga ito ay makababalik pa rin sila sa kanilang obligasyon sa simbahan, bagama’t “subject for approval” ng kanilang parish priests.

Pinagbawalan niya rin ang mga ito na gumamit ng alinmang pasilidad ng simbahan o magsuot ng church organization shirts kapag nangangampanya.

“[W]e wish to guard our faithful against possible accusations of using the church for partisan exercise,” ipinunto ni Villarojo. “We hope that our brothers and sisters who seek to be elected as public officials will bring with them the values of Christ in this wonderful venture, prioritizing the common good, justice, peace, with a love of preference for the poor and in the spirit of Christian service,” pagpapatuloy pa niya.

Ang BSKE ay idaraos sa Oktubre 30. Inaasahang makikilahok dito ang nasa 91,094,089 registered voters.
