MATAPOS mabunyag ang illegal resolution na pumapayag ng importation ng 300,000 metric tons ng asukal sa bansa, binuking nitong Linggo ni Senador Imee Marcos ang illegal importation ng puting sibuyas.
Ito’y matapos masabat ng Bureau of Customs ang nasa P36 million halaga ng sibuyas sa Misamis Oriental na nakadeklarang “spring roll patti” at “plain churros.”
Ayon sa Senadora, matandang kapatid ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos Jr., hindi siya kumbinsido na mayroong “local shortage” ng puting sibuyas dahil ang Department of Agriculture (DA) ay hindi nagpakita ng imbentaryo ng sibuyas, panahon ng pagtanim at pag-ani.
“The DA was urged to assess white onion shortage, as it was asked on sugar and porcine PAP (processed animal protein) shortages. Again, no data could be presented, just blanket claims that ‘Wala po talagang laman ang mga bodegang pinuntahan namin,’” paliwanag ng Senador.
“Tama na, buking na! Hindi na kami magpapaloko,” dagdag pa ng “Super Ate” ni PBBM.
Nagbabala ang mambabatas sa lahat ng sangkot sa iligal na gawaing ito.
“Let this serve as a fair warning to all concerned, we are aware of the modus operandi going on. It’s the same old story. Paulit-ulit na lang, eh,” diin ni Imee.
“First, they smuggle. Then they create a shortage, and produce a legitimate import permit. By next week, I have no doubt smuggled onions will flood the market covered by a ‘legitimate’ importation order of gargantuan proportions,” ngitngit ni Imee. (Mylene Alfonso)
