Encounter with Sen. Shelly V. Calvo of Guam

I came to the 4th Dangal ng Lahing Filipino Awards ceremony too early in Mandaluyong City’s Lancaster Hotel. At the venue was the organizer Maria Liza F. Lorenzo who came with her staff. The preparation was truly remarkable and the place was so lovely and elegant.

Some of the awardees I met were philanthropic and multi-awarded film director Romm Burlat, young actress Elia Ilano with her mom Ssheng, sexy Kitkat, adorable couple Jigo and Camille Postolero (I really love them), Josephine Arboleda, and Paul A. Calvo (president and CEO of Calvo’s Insurance) with his lovely wife US Senator Shelly V. Calvo of Guam Legislature.

Sen. Shelly V. Calvo is the 2025 Dangal ng Lahing Filipino Awards’ Hall of Fame for Most Outstanding Public Servant of the Year.

Sen. Calvo is part of the Committee on Child Welfare, Youth Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women’s Affairs, Disability Services, the Arts, Culture, Historic Preservation, and Hagatna Restoration.

I was with them on Table 6 in the VIP section. Senator Calvo always mentioned her doting Filipino mom in her speech as a gesture of her being a grateful daughter. She was kind to me and even told her hubby Paul to take me some photographs. They cheered to me when I received my Lifetime Achievement Award for Most Outstanding Freelance Journalist in the Philippines.
