In support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s agenda to strengthen government revenues, the Bureau of Customs (BOC), under the leadership of Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, recorded its highest-ever January to September collection at P757.406 billion in 2026.
The nine-month collection exceeded the P748.494-billion target for the period by P8.913 billion, or 1.2%, keeping the Bureau ahead of its collection program with three months remaining in the year.
The BOC also collected P55.735 billion more compared to the same period in 2025, equivalent to a 7.9% year-on-year increase. The growth underscores that the Bureau’s revenue performance is not based on projections alone, but on actual collections already realized.
September further strengthened the Bureau’s performance, with collections reaching P93.339 billion, exceeding the P89.184-billion monthly target by p4.155 billion, or 4.7%. This was also p13.056 billion, or 16.3%, higher than the collection recorded in September 2025.
Commissioner Nepomuceno credited the Bureau’s continued performance to the dedication and hard work of its personnel, emphasizing that the P1-trillion goal is a shared mission of the entire organization.
“To all our men and women in the Bureau of Customs, the P1-trillion goal is ambitious, but our performance shows that we are on the right track. Sa loob pa lang ng siyam na buwan, nakalikom na tayo ng P757.4 billion, nalampasan ang ating target, at nakapagtala ng 7.9% growth compared to the same period last year. Higit sa numbers, these results reflect your hard work, dedication, and commitment to public service. Kaya hinihingi ko ang patuloy ninyong suporta at pagkakaisa habang tinatahak natin ang huling tatlong buwan ng taon,” Commissioner Nepomuceno said.
“Let us look at this goal not as a responsibility of a few, but as a shared mission of the entire Bureau. At ang tagumpay ng Bureau ay hindi lang tagumpay ng ahensya kundi tagumpay ng buong bansa. Every peso we properly collect goes back to our people, supporting the services and programs they need. Kaya sama-sama tayong magtrabaho, magtulungan, at maniwala na kaya nating makamit—not for the numbers alone, but for the country we are all here to serve,” he added.
The BOC’s sustained revenue growth is supported by strengthened monitoring and collection measures, improved valuation and assessment, intensified enforcement against smuggling and other forms of revenue leakage, and continuing efforts to modernize customs processes.
Under Commissioner Nepomuceno’s Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization (IAM) Movement, the Bureau continues to pursue reforms aimed at strengthening revenue administration, facilitating legitimate trade, improving accountability, and ensuring that revenues legally due to the government are properly collected.
With three months remaining in 2026, the BOC is focused on sustaining its momentum toward its full-year revenue goal. For the Bureau, the path toward the P1-trillion mark will ultimately be measured not by speculation, but by actual collections and results. (JERRY S. TAN)
