On President Dutert’s challenge that he “would resign immediately” as President if anyone could prove that he was lying when he stated that “Carpio (was) xxx involved in the decision to withdraw Navy ships from the West Philippine Sea” during the 2012 standoff between the Philippine and Chinese naval vessels in Scarborough Shoal:
President Duterte should now resign immediately to keep his word of honor. I state under oath that I was never involved in the decision to withdraw Philippine Navy ships from the West Philippine Sea during the 2012 Scarborough standoff. I was serving in the Supreme Court at that time and all I knew about the withdrawal of Philippine Navy ships was what I read in the newspapers. I call as my witnesses former President benigno Aquino lll and the Defense Secretary, Foreign Affairs Secretary, and the Chiefs of the Philippine Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard at that time.
On President Duterte’s challenge to debate with me on the West Philippine Sea issue: I gladly accept the challenge anytime at the President’s convenience.”
Ang tanging naging reaksiyon rito ng Palasyo sa pamamagitan ni Sec. Harry Roque ay: “Ang sinasabi ko po, the debate has been ongoing as far as the Filipino is concerned pero if he wants a formal debate, kahit kailan po iyan welcome naman po ni Presidente iyan.” (Jonah Mallari)
