NAKAMIT ng Ateneo de Manila University ang korona sa UAAP Season 87 swimming tournament, at nasungkit ang ninth straight title sa men’s division at nabawi ang womens crown matapos ang limang taon sa world-class New Clark City Aquatics Center sa Capas,Tarlac.
Sa men’s division,ang Ateneo ay nakaipon ng 493 points on 19 gold, six silver at five bronze medals.
De la salle ang second place na may 321 points, 1 gold, 13 silvers at four bronzes) sumunod ang University of the Philippines na may 226 points (1-0-7) at ang University of Santo Tomas may 170 points (1-3-6).
Ang Blue Eagles ay nasilo ng five gold medals sa final day ng kumpetisyon kaloob ni Rookie of the Year at MVP Miguel Barreto Barreto (1500-meter freestyle), Ivo Enot (50m backstroke at 50m freestyle), Juan Marco Daos (200m butterfly) at ang men’s 4x100m medley relay team ni Enot, Charles Ticbaen, Rafael Barreto, at Rian Marco Tirol.
Sa women’s division, Ateneo ay nakaipon ng 349 points on seven golds, eight silvers at six bronzes.
UP,champion nakaraang season, ranked second na may 337 points (7-4-5) sumunod ang La Salle na may 250 points (4-4-4) at UST may 209 points (3-5-6).
Mishka Sy naangkin ang MVP honors nagwagi ng 2 golds,four silvers at bronze.
La Salle’s Mikaela Talosig nakuha ang Rookie of the Year award matapos ibulsa ang 3 gold at 2 bronze medal.
Overall, Ateneo ay nagwagi ng 10 men’s titles at seven women’s titles.
“The biggest challenge is keeping them motivated and [having] the desire to actually perform. We reminded them that breaking records and winning golds bring honor to the school and the team,” Wika ni Lim.
