The historic Quezon Hall of West Visayas State University (WVSU) in La Paz, Iloilo City, has been fully restored and reopened. The project, spearheaded by the Henry Sy Foundation in collaboration with the SM Foundation, addressed both structural and aesthetic concerns while modernizing the building’s facilities.
Originally completed in 1926, Quezon Hall underwent a comprehensive renovation, preserving its architectural character while adding modern features such as 24 new classrooms, faculty rooms, administrative offices, and improved lighting and ventilation systems. The College of Arts and Sciences will manage the facility, benefiting students from all WVSU colleges.
Restoration efforts, approved by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, included structural reinforcements, pest control measures, and upgrades to enhance functionality while maintaining the hall’s historical integrity.
“Working together with the WVSU, local stakeholders, and our dedicated team, we are not only restoring a building but also investing in the potential of every student who will step into its doors. Together, we are creating an environment that inspires academic excellence and fosters dreams that can reshape communities and uplift lives,” said Dr. Lydia Echauz, Executive Director of the Henry Sy Sr. Foundation.
The initiative aligns with the Henry Sy Foundation and SM Foundation’s commitment to preserving Filipino heritage and enhancing educational infrastructure. The renovated Quezon Hall is now operational, serving the academic needs of WVSU students. (Gilbert Perdez)
