I knew that if Maria Christina Lopez were still alive, he would be very proud of his son JP Lopez, a recognized writer and director.
He is often associated with TV networks like GMA Network and various independent production houses in the Philippines.
I was also amazed by JP’s excellence, passion and dedication to teach us Batch 2026 participants.
During our first day we were introduced into the world of group dynamics activities from remembering the names, places of residences and adjectives of our group mates, creating a group logo under time pressure (I belong to Jolly Peers group) and chanting cheers to lifting a groupmate lying down by just using our two pointing fingers with the power of our minds.
It was really fun and we learned the value of entrusting ourselves (to others) in order to free from our inhibitions that block actors to act naturally. Freeing one’s self from inhibitions is essential for acting naturally because it allows your emotional and physical impulses to flow without self-judgment or fear of others’ opinions. To act naturally, one must certainly shift from performing to living within the character’s circumstances, allowing for raw, unscripted responses.
It was exciting to know what are architectural and monumental exercises (with the help of PhilStagers actor Joseph Tanada) as we blindfolded ourselves by just actively listening to instructions.
In the first day of our summer theater and film workshop, I learned the significance of trust, teamwork and time.
We are looking forward for more enlightening, learning and enjoyable exercises.
Many thanks JP Lopez!
