3rd regular session ng Senado binuksan na

PORMAL na nagbukas na ng 3rd regular session ng 18th Congreds ang Mataas na Kapulungan ng Kongreso ilang oras bago ang huling State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Binuksan ang sesyon kung saan 14 senador ang physically present habang walo ang dumalo sa video conference.

Sa pagbubukas ng sesyon, inihayag ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na tiwala siyang malalampasan ang nararanasang pandemya.

“We will continuously seek to expose corruption in public service and direct the searchlight of one of our committees towards the dark corners of our bureaucracy where corruption and injustice thrive unnoticed,” ani Sotto.

“We will also unceasingly address the usual concerns of the common man for food, shelter, education, and medical help.”

Nabatid na 10 panukalang batas ang bibigyang prayoridad ng Senado.

Ayon kay Sotto, kabilang sa mga panukalang ito ay ang amiyenda sa Foreign Investment Acts (FIA) at sa Public Service Act (PSA); ang Government Financial Institutions Unified Initiatives to Distressed Enterprises for Economic Recovery (GUIDE) Bill; panukalang Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos; Package 4 ng Comprehensive Tax Reform Program (CTRP) o mas kilala sa panukalang Passive Income Tax and Financial Intermediary Tax Act (PIFITA); ang panukalang Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines (VIP); Rural Agricultural and Fisheries Development Financing System (Agri-Agra) bill; at ang Package 3 ng CTRP o ang Valuation Reform Bill.

Sinabi naman ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri na sisikapin din ng Senado na ipasa ang mga panukalang modernisasyon ng Bureau of Fire Protection; pagpapataas ng edad para sa Statutory Rape; ang Military and Uniformed Personnel Insurance Fund Bill; Philippine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Bill; Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Extension Law, at ang posibiliad ng Bayanihan 3.

Gaya ng nakaraang taon, hybrid pa rin o magkahalong pisikal at virtual ang magiging pagdalo ng mga senador sa pagbubukas ng sesyon.

Matapos ng pagbubukas ng sesyon sa umaga, nagtungo naman ang mga kinatawan ng Senado sa Batasang Pambansa para sa joint session ng Kongreso at para pakinggan ang State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. (Mylene Alfonso)
