LegisHear to strengthen agriculture, improve laws through direct public dialogue, says Speaker Dy

House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Friday said the newly launched LegisHear program will help the House of Representatives craft more responsive laws by bringing lawmakers directly to communities and listening to the concerns of ordinary Filipinos, particularly those in the agriculture sector.

Speaking during the inaugural LegisHear consultation at Isabela State University–Echague, Dy said the nationwide initiative is designed to ensure that Congress hears firsthand the concerns and recommendations of citizens before crafting or refining legislation.

“Kaya naman po ginagawa namin ito. Katulad ng aming pangunahing sinasabi na napakahalaga na mayroon pong ganitong talakayan at may ganitong ugnayan, nang sa ganoon baka mayroon pa po kaming nakakaligtaang gawin sa ating mga proposed measures o mga panukalang batas para lalo pang tumugon sa atin pong mga pangangailangan, lalo na po dito sa ating lalawigan ng Isabela,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker from Isabela emphasized that the consultations are particularly significant for Isabela, one of the country’s agricultural powerhouses as he stressed that support for the nation’s farmers remains among the House’s priorities.

“Kilala po tayo sa larangan ng agrikultura. Dapat mapalakas po natin ang ating agrikultura, mapalakas po natin ang ating farmers,” explained the Speaker.

“Ang atin pong pinapangarap ay magandang presyo, maganda ang kita, at magandang suporta ng ating pamahalaan para lalo pang umunlad ang agrikultura, hindi lamang ng ating lalawigan ng Isabela, kundi ng buong bansang Pilipinas.”

The Speaker said concerns raised during the consultations would help lawmakers identify gaps in existing policies and guide the development of measures that better address the needs of communities across the country.

The first LegisHear consultation gathered representatives from various sectors, including farmers, fisherfolk, educators, students, local government officials, civil society organizations, and national government agencies, for discussions on key policy issues and the implementation of existing laws.

Aside from legislative consultations, participating government agencies also brought frontline services closer to communities while gathering feedback that could improve public service delivery.

Dy expressed confidence that the discussions would produce valuable recommendations that would help Congress craft better laws for the benefit of the Filipino people.

“Ito ay mga magagandang halimbawa ng ating pag-uusapan ngayong araw na ito. Kaya kami po ay nagpapasalamat na nandito po kayong lahat. Alam kong magiging makulay ang atin pong talakayan at ang atin pong pag-uusapan ngayong araw sapagkat uunahin po natin ang lahat para sa kapakanan ng ating sambayanang Pilipino,” said the Speaker.

“Muli, sa inyo pong lahat, mabuhay po kayong lahat. Maraming salamat po sa ngalan ng Bagong Kongreso.” (RM)
