KINATAY ng De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ang Mapua, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21, para simulan ang kanilang kampanya sa V-League Collegiate Challenge sa Gameville Central Park sa Mandaluyong City Sabado.

Umiskor ng 22 puntos ang opposite hitter na si Reymark Betco, kabilang ang 18 attacks, apat na blocks, at tatlong digs.

Nakaambag si Rocky Motol ng 14 puntos habang pinangasiwaan ng team captain na si Chris Villanueva ang opensa gamit ang 16 mahusay na set para sa nagtataglay na kampeon ng National Collegiate Athletic Association.

“We stopped training from Sunday to Tuesday, and then Wednesday was just a light session since we had just come from Boracay,” wika ng long-time Benilde coach Arnold Laniog.

“The mindset, however, is that this shouldn’t be an excuse for not playing well. It’s still a game. It’s still a match. You’re representing the school.”

Pinamunuan ni Ar-Jay Ramos ang talunan na Cardinals sa iniskor na 16 points at 22 receptions sinundan ni Patrick Reyes 10 points at five digs.

Sa ibang laro, pinatalsik ng Colegio de San Juan de Letran ang University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion holder National University, 29-31, 26-24, 17-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Dave Thomas Lardizabal nagtapos ng 22 points on 18 attacks at four blocks habang si Maximuz Paolo Lopez bumakas ng 17 points para sa Knights.
