NAGULAT ang pamunuan ng Philippine Rowing Association (PRA) sa qualification ni Joanne Delgaco sa 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sinabi ni PRA president Patrick Gregorio na malaki ang tiwala nya kay Delgaco dahil sa kanyang achievment sa panahon ng 19th Asian Games nakaraang taon sa Hangzhou.
Nakapasok si Delgaco sa Olympic matapos masungkit ang fourth place sa final ng Asian and Oceana Qualification Regatta sa Chungju, South Korea, matapos maorasan ng seven minutes at 39.49 seconds.
“Joanie made it to the finals of the Asian Games and finished fifth. She only needed to build from that to make it to the Olympics,” Wika ni Gregorio.
“That’s why we’re happy since she was able to do better than we expected. Given the right breaks, Joanie is set to beat more opponents.”
“Going up against bigger rowers with longer arms in an open weight category, it’s a big deal for us Filipinos for Joanie to qualify,” Dagdag ni Gregorio.
Si Delgaco ang kauna-unahang woman rower ng bansa na nakapasok sa Olympics at fourth rower overall pagkatapos ni national team coach Edgardo Maerina noong 1988, Benjamin Tolentino sa 2000 at Cris Nievarez sa 2021.
Ang 26-year-old ay makakasama ng delegation sa Metz, France sa Hunyo para sa one-month training camp bago ang Summer Games na magsisimula sa Hulyo 26.
