NM Retanal kampeon sa Riyadh Chess League Open Tournament

NAGKAMPEON si Philippine National Master Elwin Herbias Retanal sa katatapos na tough Riyadh Chess League Open Tournament na ginanap sa Villagio Mall Al Batha, Riyadh City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ang Cebuano native Retanal na top player ni PCAP Vice Chairman Dr. Ariel Potot ng Lapu-Lapu Naki Warriors ay nakipaghatian ng puntos kontra kay Cesar Marabulas sa 30 moves ng Kings Indian defense sa last round ng 10 minutes plus 2 seconds increment time control format.

Ang Malita, Davao del Sur resident Retanal, 1997 national junior champion ay nakaipon ng 6.5 points mula 6 wins at 1 draw para maghari sa 7-round tournament.

Nakamit ni Retanal ang trophy, gold coin 18Karat at goodies sa over the board chess tournament.

Ang veteran chesser ay kasalukuyang nasa Riyadh na nagta trabaho bilang Captain Waiter sa King Salman Palace Arqa Al Khuzama.

Aktibo din siyang miyembro ng Riyadh Chess League.

Tumapos naman si Omar Sarivar Gonzales sa second na may 5.5 points.

Magkasalo naman sina Samat Bakolong, Aldrin Gallardo at Ahmad Morsalim sa 3rd hanggang 5th places na may tig 5 points habang nalagay si Cesar Marabulas sa 6th na may 4.5 points.

Mga nakapasok sa top 11 na may tig 4 points ay sina Gerard Rodrigo (7th), Richard Matibag (8th), John Golpeo (9th), Augusto Abo (10th) at Nero Christoffer (11th).

Dahil sa natamong tagumpay kung saan ang magandang performance ni Retanal ay nagpaganda sa imahe ng mga Filipino chess champions ayon kay PCAP Vice Chairman Dr. Ariel Potot.
