Sen. Hontiveros kumbinsido na alam ni ES Rodriguez ang kontrobersyal na SO No. 4

KUMBINSIDO si Senador Risa Hontiveros na batid ni Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez ang kontrobersiyal na sugar order resolution bago pa man mangyari ang umano’y ‘fiasco’.

Sa ginanap na Senate blue ribbon committee kahapon tinanong ni Hontiveros kung bakit hindi ipinagbigay-alam ni ES Rodriguez kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ang plano ng SRA na umangkat ng asukal bago pa man pumutok ang naturang kontrobersiya.

Ayon sa senadora, mayroon nang umiikot na draft ng sugar order no. 4 para mag-angkat ng 300,000MT ng asukal subalit bakit hindi ito sinabi ng kalihim sa Pangulo.

“As early as August 5, 2022, a draft of the Sugar Order No. 4 was already submitted to former SRA administrator Leo Sebastian. In the afternoon of August 5, the DA OSec already wrote to the ES na inamin niya ngayon and sent him the said draft as well as a Memorandum for the President,” sabi ni Hontiveros.

“Alam ni Sec. Rodriguez na may umiikot na Draft Order. An order that received support from stakeholders of the sugar industry. Did he mention this at all to his principal? Di ba dapat ang ES prinoprotektahan ang pangulo? Di ba dapat ang ES gatekeeper?” paliwanag pa ng senadora.

Samantala, nakatikim naman ng pasaring ang SRA officials mula kay Senate Committee on Agriculture Cynthia Villar.

Ayon kay Villar, tila masigasig umano ang SRA kapag pag-import ng asukal ang usapan subalit wala naman itong ginagawa sa usapin ng pagtulong sa mga sugar farmers kahit may batas nang naipasa para rito.

“The SRA should focus on the development of sugar industry to make it competitive by producing more sugar at a lower cost rather than focus on importation,” banggit ni Villar. (Mylene Alfonso)
