Pa’no yun?
At Republic Act No. 6770.

Those were the days
“LOOKING back on 70 years, I am filled with gratitude for every joy, lesson, and person who has been a part of my journey.”
“I thanked God ‘coz I’m so blessed to have shared this incredible journey with my loved ones. Thank you for the love and laughter throughout the years.”
A birthday celebration for friends often involves a surprise party, a shared meal, and activities like games, singing and dancing.
Many stories highlight the importance of friendship and togetherness, focusing on the memories created rather than just presents or perfection.
Last November 22, although it was a well-planned birthday celebration, of course, its not a surprise birthday party anymore, but the narrative emphasizes that the best birthday parties are those where old and new friends reconnect, shared laughter, joyful faces and a festive atmosphere.
My cousin, former PH Prosecutor General Jun Galvez Catalan turned 69 years old last November 7. My long-time friend, Steve Nocum (67), November 21 and of course my best friend Toti Bautista and me (70), November 24.
BTW, Jun, Steve, Toti and I grew up together in a small community called Matang Tubig in Tondo, Manila. We had a very memorable moments, like playing backyard basketball, hide and seek, pasyal sa simentryo ng intsik, akyat sa puno ng aratiris and many more.
Friends sang “Happy Birthday” song while we blew the candles, a sumptuous dinner, masarap na lechon, enjoyed the cakes, wine and beer and had a wonderful time celebrating together.
Gifts were exchanged, but the main theme was the thoughtfulness behind each one.
My grand daughter Willa, member of the University of the East (UE) fencing team to the UAAP, sung her own rendition of “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” a song by American rock band Guns and Roses.
As the evening ended, the birthday celebrators reflected on how special the day was due to the love and effort from friends and family.
Special thanks to Pareng Bebeng Chang and Pareng Ric Mesa for the delicious food and to my cousin Jun for the live band.
And to all my old friends from Matang Tubig, Elvie, Zeny and Bebong, sisters of Toti, came all the way from the USA, my son Waylon and Pareng Romer, Henry Morales, Chito Reyes, Oscar Flores, Bobot Yee, Hammer Head and friends, tropa ng Amarantex and to all the guests who spent the night away singing and dancing and drinking.
To Jun, Steve and Toti, may this year bring us everything we wish for and more, filled with the same joy and laughter we’ve brought into the lives of others.
Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat!
