EJ Obiena pinagkalooban ng Olympic Solidarity Scholarship

ISA si Pole vaulter EJ Obiena sa siyam na Filipinong atleta na nabiyayaan ng Olympic Solidarity Schoolarship (OSS) ng International Olympic Committee (IOC)

Kasama sa nakatanggap ng biyaya sina 14-year-old golfer Rianne Malixi, 23-year-old weightlifter Elnreen Ando, 28-year-old boxer Rogen Ladon, 20-year-old cyclist Patric Cook, 20-year-old skateboarder Jericho Francisco, and 19-year-old wrestler Allen Arcilla.

Lahat ng athlete scholars ay inendorso ng kanilang sariling national sports associations, maliban kay Obiena, na pinakamahusay sa listahan bilang Asian men’s pole vault record holder.

Ayon sa alituntunin ng scholarships, bawat atleta ay tatanggap ng halagang $833 bawat buwan hanggang sa Paris 2024 Olympics, ayon kay Philippine Olympic (POC) President Rep.Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

“The POC wishes to congratulate these nine promising athletes for earning scholarships as they focus on their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics,” Wika ni Tolentino. “This is the first time that our country had such a large number of scholars.”

Sinabi ni Tolentino ang pagsama kay Obiena kahit hindi enindorso ng Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association ay bilang respeto at kinikilala ng IOC ang desisyon ng national Olympic Committee.

Ang scholarship ay kabilang ang paggamit sa training facilities, sa coach na nag-specialize sa kanilang kanya-kanyang disciplines, regular medical at scientific assistance and control, accident at illness insurance, board and lodging coast,pocket money at most essentially, travel coast para sa athletes’ na lalahok sa kaugnay na competitions at Paris 2024 qualification events.

Ang OSS ay programa ng IOC na layuning makatulong sa elite athletes na pinili at nirekomenda ng kanilang sariling NOC’s para sa kanilang preparasyon at qualification para sa Paris 2024.

“All these athletes need to do is to focus on their training and set their goal toward the Paris Olympics,” tugon ni Tolentino.
