SP Sotto, ‘forthwith’ ang aksyon ‘pag dinala sa Senado ang impeachment case vs VP Sara

AGAD na magko-convene ang Senado bilang impeachment court sa mismong susunod na araw kapag umakyat na sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Ginawa ni Sotto ang reaksyon sa naging paglilinaw kaugnay sa terminong “forthwith,” na binanggit sa Article 11, Section 3(4) ng 1987 Constitution na nangangahulugang dapat isagawa ng Senado ang impeachment trial “within a reasonable time,” at hindi kinakailangang agad-agad, taliwas sa iginiit ng isang petitioner.

“I think the Supreme Court decision is based on the petition. Hindi naman sumasaklaw ‘yung decision na ‘yan sa trabaho ng Senado. Does not have anything to do with the work of the Senate. We are co-equal of branch. That’s why tama ‘yung decision nila, pero as far as that petition that was filed to them is concerned, not on the way the Senate is conducting itself,” paliwanag ni Sotto sa ambush interview.

“And in this case, if ever we receive the articles of impeachment, we will act on it forthwith. Sa akin ang forthwith, [means] the following day,” patuloy ni Sotto.

Matatandaang sinabi ng Supreme Court na ang terminong “forthwith,” ay sa loob ng reasonable time na maaaring mas mahaba o mas maikli depende sa mga kalagayan ng bawat kaso. (Mylene Alfonso)
