PELIKULANG THE FISHER NI DIREK PAUL SORIANO, MAKABULUHAN AT NAPAPANAHON

Bagong pelikula ni direk Paul Soriano ang The Fisher.

Natanong ang guwapong direktor kung ano ang inspirasyon niya sa pagbuo ng naturang pelikula.

“Great question!

“Several things. Obviously as a storyteller, as filmmakers we’re all inspired by the things we read, and things we see.

“And I guess two things; I remember in one of my, I guess my research, iyon nga I was thinking of what to do, I saw a documentary on Youtube I think, and I dug deeper, was that there are provinces here in the Philippines especially the provinces that live near the ocean, where there’s this tradition or this superstition that when it’s the time of the month for women, they go to the ocean to cleanse.

“I’m not sure if you’re familiar with that.

“I guess in communities that live by the beach and true enough and one of the witnesses in one particular barangay or province one of the ladies got pregnant and nobody knew how.

“And truth be told is she apparently gave birth to a fish!

“And whether it’s a myth or not, they were very truthful about their witnesses, they saw it.

“And you know what a very interesting way to end a movie.

“So actually when I was writing this with Anton Sta. Maria I really had the ending, it’s about a woman who gave birth and then I kinda worked backwards and try to figure out you know, how I can get to that ending.

“I guess the other one also was you know, I know you mentioned not being political but I was also, I guess also as a filmmaker, as a storyteller we’re curious about what’s happening with the West Philippine Sea right, which I think is so relevant today, right?

“Again I’m not an expert so disclaimer it’s just my thoughts as a filmmaker, as a storyteller but my protagonist obviously is a Filipino fisherman who encounters a Chinese fisherman.

“I think that’s the beauty of storytelling, is that everyone you know can have their own revelations.

“Film creates dialogue, creates discourse and I hope that’s what The Fisher can do but at the same time we hope that it can entertain people also and allow people to escape reality for a while and enter this world that we created.

“So I’m very excited to finally show it nationwide.”

Mga artista sa The Fisher sina Mon Confiado, Mercedes Cabral, Enchong Dee, Heaven Peralejo, Tommy Alejandrino at Eula Valdes. Produced ito ng TEN17P at Black Cap Pictures.

Lately ay hindi madalas gumawa ng pelikula si direk Paul, bakit kaya?

Ayon sa kanya, kapag gumagawa siya ng pelikula ay tila “married” siya sa anumang proyektong pinagkakabalahan niya.

“So, the movies I do must be a great reason for me to stay away from my family,” sambit ni direk Paul.

Nag-i-invest raw siya ng oras at panahon sa paggawa ng pelikula bago pa magsimula ang shooting at maging kapag natapos na ang paggiling ng kamera.

“That’s why I can’t do two, three films simultaneously.

“As filmmaker, I’m heavily into everything about telling the story and that takes a lot of time.”
