In a significant move aimed at addressing the intertwined issues of public safety, drug-related crimes, and human rights violations, Quezon City District V Representative PM Vargas proposed to authorize a collaborative investigation by the Committees on Public Order and Safety, Dangerous Drugs, and Human Rights through House Resolution 1843.
“This resolution is in line with the call of Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio ‘Dong” Gonzales to conduct an investigation on illegal activities linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators,” says the legislator during the plenary session on August 6, 2024.
The proposed resolution which seeks to enhance legislative oversight and ensure a comprehensive examination of the alarming rise of criminal activities associated with POGOs is a response to the findings by the house committees on separate motu proprio investigations on the matter.
“Now more than ever, the Filipinos are united from the executive branch, the judiciary and the legislative, both senate and congress in ensuring that this administration pursues what is beneficial and rightful for the people. Ang Pilipinas ay para sa Pilipino”, adds Vargas as he expresses support for the administration’s efforts to seize POGO operations.
The resolution is set to be reviewed and discussed in the House of Representatives in the coming sessions. Once approved, the joint investigation will commence, with the aim of delivering a detailed report to guide future legislative actions. (Cesar Barquilla)
